How to Improve Your Air Conditioner's Flow
The last thing you need as the days get warmer is to find that your air conditioner is not working correctly. A poor flow may stop you from getting the benefits of the cool air that you require. This is one of the more difficult problems to fix as there are a few reasons why the flow may become weak. If this happens to you, you should start looking into air conditioning repair.
Change the filters
The filters need to be changed regularly, so make sure that they are replaced about once a month. Even the cleanest houses will have some dust, and it is the job of the filter to catch it. If too much is lodged in the filters, you will not be able to benefit from cool air, as it will not be able to get out. In the worst cases, a blockage can prevent the air conditioning from working at all.
Check the dampers
If the dampers are not correctly functioning, this could cause weak airflow, and you will notice it only in some rooms. Air conditioning repair may not be needed if the dampers are opened, as this will let the air through again. Simply check that the levers—dampers—are in the "on" position. and if they are not, put them there. You should soon feel the air coming out much more strongly.
Get the right filters for your home
There are many different types of filter, and there will be one that is right for your air conditioning. They all work at different rates of efficiency and have varying MERV ratings. As with a lot of things, bigger is not always better—it is when you choose a filter that is more powerful than you need that you can start to have problems with the power flow and need to arrange for air conditioning repair. If you are using the air conditioning in the home, find out what MERV rating would be best. It may vary depending on your specific circumstances.
Check for leaking ducts
Surprising as it may seem, a leaking duct is often the main culprit when it comes to poor airflow. If you can see light coming through the vent, then you know you need repairs carried out. There is also the chance that the ducts are too small for the level of flow that you want. If that is the case, it may be best to have them replaced.
